Pregnancy — that unique and unforgettable moment in a woman's life… Unforgettable because it is unlike any other, heralding the arrival of a little being you are already longing to cherish. But also unforgettable because it can come with its fair share of discomforts! Although every woman experiences this 9-month adventure differently, there are symptoms that announce you are indeed pregnant, and which are more or less the same for all women.

The first symptoms of pregnancy

Let us remind ourselves that a symptom reveals a particular situation — it is a sign of a state that is coming or already under way. In women, the early signs of pregnancy can be more or less pronounced depending on how far along it is. The first warning signs tend to manifest as follows:

Tender breasts: Breasts that are more or less sore, slightly swollen or even firm, along with nipples and areolae that may darken.

A missed period: Which is in fact an absence of a period, and which you will notice quickly — especially if you are "regular as clockwork".

Nausea: Or even vomiting, which often appears between the 2nd and 8th week of pregnancy, and which can persist in some women.

Unusual fatigue: Often present until the end of the first trimester.

Frequent need to urinate: This is explained by the fact that your uterus is growing to prepare for the foetus, which puts pressure on your bladder.

Mood swings: Uncontrollable crying and changeable moods can appear — some women even find they cannot stand their partner during pregnancy... courage, gentlemen!

Heightened sensitivity to smells: Your sense of smell will become much more acute and you may well find yourself detesting certain smells without even knowing why...

Increased cravings: Some foods you love could suddenly repel you entirely, whilst conversely, you might find yourself with an irresistible craving for foods you normally dislike.

Cramps: Located in the legs and feet, due to the way your body now processes calcium.

Take heart, ladies — while some symptoms can be difficult to cope with and manage on a daily basis, they are only temporary, and your reward at the end will be all the more beautiful!
