When you start looking into the world of pocket diapers, a quick search on Google is enough to leave you completely overwhelmed by information. You quickly find yourself at a loss, faced with jargon that is utterly baffling to the uninitiated: insert, Pocket diaper, Cover diaper, all-in-one diaper, gussets… What does it all mean? Which pocket diaper should I buy for my baby? Don't panic — we explain everything!

Which pocket diapers should you use?

For daytime use, the ideal choice remains Pocket diapers (TE1) or Cover diapers (TE2). Easy to use and not too bulky, both models allow you to adjust the absorbency of the diaper to suit your needs. Indeed, you can add one or more inserts and vary the materials used.

What is an insert?

The insert is the absorbent part of the diaper. It can be made from different materials. Microfibre is a highly absorbent material with the advantage of drying very quickly. Bamboo, meanwhile, is equally absorbent and also antibacterial.

What are the differences between Pocket diapers and Cover diapers?

Pocket diapers (TE1)

Pocket diapers are made from PUL, a breathable, durable, and waterproof fabric. They are lined with a fleece inner layer. A pocket at the back allows you to slide in an insert, thus increasing the absorbency of your pocket diaper.

Advantages of Pocket diapers (TE1)

- They are less expensive to buy

- Very comfortable thanks to their fleece inner layer

- Adjustable absorbency: by varying the number of inserts and the way they are positioned (on top of the diaper or inside the pocket).

Cover diapers (TE2)

Cover diapers do not have a fleece liner. As a result, you do not need to wash the cover at every change — you simply replace the insert. For a better fit, the insert is attached to the cover via a press stud. We recommend the Cover diaper model for exclusively breastfed babies, who generally have more liquid stools.

Advantages of Cover diapers (TE2)

- Do not need to be washed at every change — you simply replace the insert, so fewer covers are needed overall

- Faster drying

- Fitted with double gussets (reinforced leak barriers) to prevent leaks!

Ideally, try both models. This will allow you to determine which model suits your child best. Ultimately, it will be your child's comfort and your laundry routine that determine which style of pocket diaper is the most suitable.

What about all-in-one pocket diapers?

All-in-one pocket diapers are ideal for peaceful nights! These are the diapers that most closely resemble disposables. They feature a bamboo insert that is sewn into the lining. However, you can also boost absorbency by adding an insert into the pocket. The inner layer of the diaper is made from bamboo charcoal to keep your child's bottom nice and dry. This plant-based material is recognised for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Furthermore, this is a double-gusset model, which provides enhanced leak protection.

What size should you choose?

At maman et bébé nature, all our diapers are one-size-fits-all and designed for babies from 3 to 15 kg. Your child should therefore be able to use the same diapers from birth to potty training. For the smallest newborns, there are Newborn models available, designed for babies weighing between 2 and 5.5 kg.
