Three autumn arts and crafts activities for toddlers
Autumn is officially here. Outings are still pleasant but the cold is already starting to creep in. So this is the time of year when activities at home are particularly welcome, such as making a little Montessori toy for baby! Here are 3 autumn arts and crafts activities for toddlers!
1. My lovely hedgehog (from 24 months)
Aim: to develop imagination and creative skills You will need:
- A sheet of white paper
- Small leaves collected outside
- Paint (if you don't have any to hand, feel free to check out our blog post "Recipe for vegetable paint". A great way to get lovely colours from almost nothing!)
- A black felt-tip pen
- A glue stick
How it works:
- An adult draws the outline of a hedgehog with the felt-tip pen, making it big enough to give the child plenty of space
- The child can then stick the leaves onto the hedgehog's back to form its spines
- Then create a background using paint, letting the child's imagination run free
2. My autumn sensory tray (from 12 months)
Aim: to develop fine motor skills, explore textures and colours You will need:
- A tray
- Various utensils and crockery (bowl, colander, tongs, spoon…)
- Conkers, acorns, dried sweetcorn kernels, small pine cones (adapt according to the child's age)
How it works:
- Prepare the tray by arranging all the chosen items
- Then give the child the necessary utensils
- Your little one can practise transferring, filling, and emptying…
3. The autumn tree (from 18 months)
Aim: to develop creativity and precision You will need:
- A sheet of paper
- A black felt-tip pen
- Finger paints (yellow, red, orange, green)
How it works:
- Draw a tree on a portrait-format sheet of paper
- Your little one can then have fun creating the tree's leaves by dipping a fingertip into the paint!
