Good dental hygiene for little ones
Those first little teeth are starting to appear?! It's time to bring out the children's toothbrush! Yes indeed, good dental hygiene for little ones starts from the very earliest age.
Here are a few tips to keep baby's teeth in perfect health!
Good dental hygiene for little ones: the first good habits
Even before the first teeth come through, it is essential to establish good eating habits! But that's not all…
- Number of meals: avoiding snacking isn't just for grown-ups! Babies too need a regular meal schedule, and should only drink water in between. From 6 months, 4 meals a day is sufficient.
- Sugary products: sweets, sugary cakes and other sugary products are not recommended for children under the age of 3. And after that, in very small quantities, of course!
- Water is your best friend: aside from breast milk or infant formula, water remains the only beneficial drink for your child.
- Keep the dummy clean: yes, indeed! We don't always think about it, but dummies can also be a source of dental problems in children. It is therefore inadvisable to dip them in sugary products, or to put them in your own mouth to clean them!
Maintaining good dental hygiene for little ones
As soon as the first teeth appear, they can be brushed. To do this, a small toothbrush for ages 0 to 2 will be needed. Its silicone or very soft bristles will keep teeth clean without irritating the gums.
As the child grows, help them get used to this strange new object. Let them play with it, for example, always under close supervision of course.
Also, lead by example!
Don't forget!
You will also need to choose a suitable baby toothpaste and consider a fluoride supplement if your doctor deems it necessary.
Finally, don't forget to book a visit to the dentist when your child turns 3!
