Our tips for organising your child's bedroom

Toys scattered everywhere, a pile of clothes mounting up, and your child doing absolutely nothing to help sort out the cheerful chaos. Clearly, tidying a child's bedroom is no child's play! Or is it...

Good organisation, a dash of motivation, and a pinch of consistency will no doubt help you avoid the storm!

Tidying a child's bedroom: labels are your best friends

We're not telling you to turn into the Bree Van de Kamp of Desperate Housewives and label everything. You know the reference?! Anyway. Putting labels on storage bins allows anyone to tidy the room correctly... without risking mixing the dolls in with the boxes of modelling clay.

We also recommend opting for storage boxes. Plastic, fabric — it doesn't matter. What's important is that your little one can easily access them, so they should be at their height.

And what about the clothing?

Have you perhaps heard of Marie Kondo? Or the KonMari folding method? This clothes-folding technique saves an enormous amount of space and also eliminates the need for ironing. We'll leave you to look up video tutorials to become a folding expert!

On the clothing front, we also recommend opting for a simple tiered chest of drawers with at least 5 compartments — ideally 7. Label each compartment with the days of the week. That way, you can choose your child's outfits in advance: guaranteed time-saver!

Organisation in tidying a child's bedroom

To stop your little one's living space from being in a constant state of chaos, it is a matter of organisation. And also of discipline.

When it is your little one's playtime, let them get on with it. But try nonetheless to teach them to put one toy away before getting another one out.

If you prefer to let things be and tidy up once the tornado has passed, then get your child involved. And if they seem a bit grumpy about it, why not make it into a game?

  • "I'm going to count to 30. If you've finished before I reach the end, you win!"
  • Or "I'd like you to put away all the red/green... objects."

And you, what is your technique when it comes to tidying?
