Creating your own little cocoon

Not exactly easy when you're in hospital, in a room where nothing is familiar and you're surrounded by strangers. We know. But it is important to feel supported during this moment and to have a reassuring person by your side. Whether it's your partner, your sister, or a friend, choose someone calming who will be able to be there for you throughout.

The comb technique

Here's an original tip for relieving pain during labour! But at times like these, ladies, we'll take anything that might help!

Simply squeeze a comb into the palm of your hand when a contraction comes on. The stronger the contraction, the harder you squeeze the comb. This technique simply works by relocating the pain.

A massage, please!

Make use of your birth partner and ask them for a gentle massage to relieve labour pain. The lower back and the neck are two areas that are particularly tense during labour. Massaging them can bring real relief.

Warm water to ease the pain

A hot water bottle, or even a warm bath, can help relax the muscles and ease tension.

However, a bath should be avoided if your waters have already broken.

Breathing

There are many breathing techniques to help you relax and manage pain during labour. Breathing exercises, or even sophrology, are techniques that help you work with your contractions and accept them, rather than fighting against them. You can learn some of these techniques during antenatal classes, for instance. Talk to your midwife about it!
