How do you recognise vaginal dryness?

Perhaps you've already wondered "why am I dry during intercourse?" If so, you are most likely suffering from what is known as vaginal dryness. This issue is in fact a symptom that can have several causes:

• Smoking
• Drug use
• Alcohol
• Genital infection
• Stress, anxiety
• Contraceptive method
• Medication

This intimate dryness primarily affects new mothers, menopausal women, or women who are pregnant. It manifests as reduced vaginal secretion. The vagina then lacks moisture, and redness may be noticed around the external intimate area.

In addition, itching can also occur, as well as a persistent discomfort, or even a burning sensation caused by local inflammation of the mucous membranes. Finally, this intimate feminine issue has an impact on a couple's life: every sexual encounter can become a real ordeal due to the pain. What's more, libido may also decrease at this time.

How is this gynaecological issue identified?

To diagnose vaginal dryness, the practitioner will carry out a gynaecological examination along with a medical consultation. They may then request a blood test or carry out a swab in order to better identify the cause — and as a result, prescribe an appropriate course of treatment.
