DIY - Making Puffy Paint
This Wednesday, we'd like to share a new activity to enjoy with your children: Puffy Paint.
What is Puffy Paint?
Puffy Paint, also known as raised paint or 3D paint, is a mixture of paste and paint that creates drawings which puff up in the microwave. This activity is great fun and children absolutely love it. It offers artistic benefits (through painting), scientific ones (by observing how it puffs up under heat), and sensory ones (by touching the texture once it's done)!
You can make the raised paint together with the children, then let them draw freely, and finally show them the result once the paint has been heated.

To make Puffy Paint
INGREDIENTS
- 3 tbsp flour
- 3 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 4 tbsp water

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
- Paint
- A bowl
- A tablespoon
- A teaspoon
- A palette

How to make Puffy Paint?
In a bowl, start by adding the flour.

Then add the salt.
Next, add the baking powder and mix well.

Finally, gradually add the water while stirring continuously.

The paste is ready!

Now mix it with your paint.

And there you have it — your Puffy Paint is ready!
How to use Puffy Paint?
It's very simple: just paint with much thicker layers than usual. Once your painting is finished, heat it in the microwave.

Be careful not to burn your Puffy Paint
Puffy Paint needs to go in the microwave to puff up. However, do take care — you risk burning the paper if you leave it in too long. That's why we recommend heating the drawings in 15-second bursts at 800W.

So, are you ready to make Puffy Paint? Have you ever tried it before? If you give it a go, feel free to share your creation with us on Instagram by tagging us or using the hashtag #DIYMamanetBBNature!
