Preparing meals for your baby: reducing food waste and choosing organic products
How can you reduce food waste and favour organic products when preparing meals for your baby? That is the question we are asking ourselves today and one we will try to answer. At a time when technology and progress are racing ahead at full speed, the Earth's resources are being depleted. So how can we limit waste, particularly where baby is concerned?
Preparing baby's meals to reduce food waste
Generally speaking, we can all see that the times call for restraint. Between limiting the waste of energy and non-recyclable materials, everyone has their own battle to try the gestures that save the planet. But that is not the only benefit one could mention in all of these savings. Indeed, making meals ourselves and then freezing them when we have made too large a quantity helps us avoid waste. By favouring fresh, organic products for their quality where possible, it is a success on every level!
Favouring organic products for preparing baby's meals
So, you have chosen to breastfeed your baby or found the best milk for them, and the natural next step for you is to prepare healthy meals for them? Go for it! Absolutely! Organic products are products derived from organic farming. By this we mean that they are not treated with pesticides or any other synthetic chemical products. This way, we preserve a healthy body with healthy food! It sounds a little like a cliche and easy to put down on paper, but baby's health comes first!
Indeed, organic ingredients have the honour of growing at their own pace. Granted, they are sometimes more expensive, but they require more time and care. This also helps to consume locally and to see our local shops thrive. Less waste and pollution during transport, fewer chemicals in our groundwater, and the possible protection of the Antarctic ice.
A recipe idea using organic products for baby's meal
Here is a little idea to jot down in our recipe book that baby is going to love. After having started weaning with small balanced dishes, we can begin talking about gentle combinations in moderation. So we started with our little basket of organic vegetables (always!). It was made up of carrots, sweet potatoes, parsnips, and so on, which we cooked and then blended separately.
That said, let us shake up our habits a little and suggest... a mixture of organic beetroot and sweet potato! Yes, you read that correctly! For a good sweet potato, use 2/3 of its weight in beetroot so that the texture is consistent, and then adjust. Indeed, if you feel the taste of beetroot is too strong, or you need to thicken it, simply add a little more sweet potato. Keep everything in small glass jars. You can freeze them since they are fresh products.
And bon appétit of course!
