Doliprane for babies — when and how should you use it? When soothing words are not enough to ease discomfort, sometimes medication saves the day. And among them, here is one of the most well-known in the family, and this has been the case for several generations.

A little history...

Doliprane is composed of a synthetic molecule known as Paracetamol. It was synthesised in 1878 by the American chemist Harmon Northrop Morse. And whilst today it is the best-selling pain reliever and fever reducer in France, this has not always been the case — particularly due to the concerns it raised regarding kidney function in the 1950s. Despite this, the paracetamol molecule has many benefits, but in which cases can it be used for babies?

The cases in which you can give Doliprane to your baby

If black seed oil cures everything except death and old age, what about this famous Doliprane that we reach for the moment our health takes a slight turn for the worse? Baby is not quite themselves this morning — a little grumpy, whinging about everything and nothing — and when you take their temperature, you notice the beginnings of a fever.

The first thing to do is remove some of their clothing to help bring their temperature down. It is not uncommon for parents to give a lukewarm bath to ease the discomfort and allow baby to relax with some toys (see the relevant article on this topic). Finally, giving Doliprane is a simple step to continue on the road to recovery whilst waiting for a medical appointment. But how often should it be given, and in what quantity?

Doliprane dosage for babies

Doliprane for babies comes with a special syringe. In the box, you will find the syrup along with a graduated pipette. The graduations correspond to the weight in kilograms of your little one, which is how you will know the correct amount to give them.

For all babies who have no particular health concerns, the syrup can be given every 4 to 6 hours. For others, it is preferable to space out doses to every 8 hours.

That said, I would not want to give you any misleading information — it goes without saying that self-medication should be avoided. This is simply a short-term solution, and a diagnosis from a doctor remains essential. For further information, do not hesitate to refer to the medication leaflet.

The types of Doliprane for babies

Fortunately, to suit all parents — and above all their children — Doliprane comes in several forms. It can be given orally via the syrup. It also comes as a suppository, administered rectally! This is a wonderful option, as some babies cannot stand the taste. In that case, during a simple nappy change, the suppository is already in place. A quick little distraction — "look, can you see a rocket?" — and the job is done!
