What is the OEKO-TEX label?

Maman et Bébé Nature has recently launched the Sensitive range, made entirely from 100% OEKO-TEX certified materials. The Sensitive range is designed for babies ( Pocket diapers and Cover diapers, inserts, washable wipes) as well as for women (washable sanitary pads, washable panty liners, and washable cotton pads). We hope this range will meet the growing demand from parents who want to ensure that the textiles in contact with their children contain no harmful substances.

Why choose a textile carrying the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification?

Some textiles may contain toxic substances such as Bisphenol A, endocrine disruptors, pesticides, heavy metals, arsenic, benzene, phthalates, and many other substances that we absolutely do not want in contact with our children's skin. Unfortunately, unlike food products, the traceability of textiles is very opaque due to the complexity of production processes. A certified label guarantees that the textile product you have purchased meets the requirements set by that certification. The Oeko-Tex label guarantees that textiles are free from harmful substances.

What is the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 label?

The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a globally standardised testing and certification system covering all textile products, whether raw, semi-finished, or finished. It applies across the entire supply chain: producers, processors, distributors, and traders. It therefore guarantees that OEKO-TEX labelled textiles are free from substances that are toxic to the body and to the environment. It was developed in Germany in 1992 and is the first independent label able to assess the ecological quality of textiles.

How does a textile obtain the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label?

The Oeko-Tex label is awarded to each textile individually, even from the same manufacturer. The tests carried out on the textiles are conducted by independent laboratories. The label must be renewed every year. Samples are taken at random from production to verify that the textile being manufactured matches the samples originally tested. The list of criteria is also reviewed annually, allowing new advances or discoveries in the industry to be taken into account.

The label ensures, in particular, that the textile has not been dyed with allergenic or azo dyes (which are carcinogenic). It also certifies that the pH value of the product is compatible with sensitive skin. The label does not necessarily guarantee the complete absence of a substance, but it does guarantee that its concentration does not exceed a clearly defined limit value, based on very strict measurement tables. For example, certain pesticides are permitted, but not all, and their quantities are strictly limited. The Oeko-Tex label does not mean that the textile is made from organically grown materials.

Furthermore, audits and checks are carried out at manufacturers' premises to encourage a more responsible use of chemical products!

All of these requirements mean the Oeko-Tex label is recognised by both professionals and consumers as a genuine "seal of safety".
