Baby's First Holiday

The holidays are fast approaching, excitement is building… but so is the stress! Yes, these are your baby's first holidays, far from the familiar comfort of home. Here are a few tips to help you prepare as well as possible for your departure with a baby in tow.

A holiday abroad

If you are planning to go abroad, it is important to find out about the country you intend to visit. Pack basic medicines in your first-aid kit, as it is always reassuring to have everything you need to hand when it comes to your baby's health!

A quick visit to your paediatrician is therefore a good idea, so they can check the current health regulations in your destination country and advise you accordingly.

Choosing a suitable destination

Choose somewhere your child can enjoy to the fullest alongside you, whether that is by the sea or in the mountains.

Some destinations are best avoided, such as certain parts of Africa where there is still a risk of malaria and yellow fever. Equally, countries with extremely high or extremely low temperatures are not ideal — a baby will struggle far more to adapt to such a drastic change in temperature and will be more at risk of falling ill.

Flying with your baby?

It is perfectly possible to fly with your baby — simply remember to breastfeed during take-off and landing, or give them a bottle of water, to prevent ear discomfort. Flying is best avoided, however, if your child has an ear infection; consult your doctor for advice.

Enjoy yourself without overpacking

Easier said than done, of course: travelling light. At least as much as possible. We all know that a child — especially a baby — needs plenty of spare clothes, reusable nappies, and so on. Find out in advance about the place where you will be staying, to know whether you will be able to wash things on site or whether you will need another solution — same goes for baby food jars, etc. Remember, holidays are for resting, so make the most of every moment!

Essential tips for a stress-free trip abroad with your baby

For a smooth and worry-free trip with your baby, it is essential to take certain health and wellbeing considerations into account. Before travelling abroad, consult your paediatrician to make sure you are prepared for the specific challenges of your chosen destination. Find out about the health regulations in force there and prepare a comprehensive first-aid kit, including medicines tailored to your baby's needs. By choosing a destination that suits your child and preparing your trip carefully, you will be able to fully enjoy your family holiday — without unnecessary baggage and with complete peace of mind.
