When baby has a nap, it obviously gives parents some time to themselves: getting on with things, taking a few minutes for yourself (do you actually manage that?), looking after the other children. In short, it's rather lovely — we won't pretend otherwise! But napping is above all hugely beneficial for your baby. More so than for you. Really — we promise!

Restorative sleep

Far more than just a benefit for the child, having a nap is actually vital for them — no exaggeration. Because a child, and especially a baby, needs this restorative sleep time in order to develop and recharge. Psychologically: sleep supports the child's development. They sleep, but their body is hard at work! The immune system kicks in, as does bone development, healing, and your baby grows. Neurologically: your little one needs this rest time to process everything that happened during the day — to absorb information and commit it to memory. It is the perfect moment for the nervous system to function and emotional balance to improve.

A reassuring routine

Napping helps to establish a rhythm to your baby's day. Routines tend to reassure children, who will feel more secure as a result. Of course, nap times depend on your child, and depending on their age (and the mood of the day), the timing may vary. But even if your child starts to resist this rest time a little, still encourage them to lie down on their mattress for some quiet time. This often helps to ease any tension and lets them reconnect with themselves. And who knows — they might just fall asleep after all!

Better night-time sleep

Yes, it may come as a surprise, but a baby who naps will find it much easier to fall asleep at bedtime in the evening. Their night will be far more peaceful, their sleep more restorative, and their time to fall asleep reduced. To finish… There are only benefits to your baby having a nap. Not to mention that they will be well-rested and therefore in much better shape during the day, less irritable and sensitive, and more ready to learn new things!
