Heavy legs during pregnancy: a common phenomenon
Far more than just a sensation, heavy legs are a physical problem. Naturally, weight gain plays a large part — but it isn't the only factor!
- Lack of physical exercise: eat, move, live!
- Heat: in summer, the heat worsens the heavy-legs sensation. Venous return is less efficient and, consequently, increases the risk of phlebitis;
- Hormones: ah, good old hormones! What aren't they responsible for?! Naturally, oestrogen and progesterone production is higher when you're expecting. Add to that the fact that your uterus is taking up space and pressing on the veins, and the result is a significant increase in blood flow.
