Peaceful nights in cloth diapers
When you first start using cloth diapers, one of the most common questions is whether they will hold up through the night without leaking. Since nights can already be chaotic when you become a parent, the last thing anyone wants is to be woken by a soggy diaper — for everyone's sake.
For children who wee a very large amount and for whom even disposable diapers leak, it will be tricky. For everyone else, with the right combination, it is absolutely possible — here is how.
Choose comfortable-fitting clothing
Most inserts have a microfibre core, which allows them to absorb liquid quickly. The downside of this material is that it tends to push liquid back out when compressed. This is why we recommend avoiding clothes that are too tight, as they can compress the diaper and cause leaks. If your child is between two sizes, go for the larger size.
Choose the most absorbent materials for night time
Each insert material has its strengths, but for night time we recommend choosing particularly absorbent materials such as bamboo or cotton.

Always double up inserts for better night-time absorption
When your child goes more than 4 hours between changes, it is important to bear in mind that most inserts are not designed to be used alone. A medium-absorbency insert will not be able to handle multiple wees on its own. This is why we recommend always doubling up the inserts in your child's diaper at night.
A stay-dry effect for a peaceful night
Even when diapers do not leak, your child may feel uncomfortable if they remain in contact with damp fabric for too long. To avoid this, simply make sure that the part in contact with your child's bottom is made from a stay-dry material.
Stay-dry inserts
More specifically, you can opt for a bamboo charcoal insert that is covered in microfleece — a material that effectively reduces the sensation of dampness. This bamboo charcoal insert is placed against your child's skin and doubled with a highly absorbent insert such as bamboo or cotton.
Washable fleece liners
If you do not have bamboo charcoal inserts, or if you prefer to use other, more absorbent inserts, you can opt for microfleece protection liners, which also offer a stay-dry effect. They will also help reduce the risk of irritation caused by dampness.
All-in-one Pocket diapers
With the right combination of inserts, all cloth diapers — Pocket diapers and Cover diapers alike — work well at night. But your best allies for dry nights are all-in-one Pocket diapers.
Their double leak-guard gussets provide an extra barrier against moisture, helping to prevent leaks around the thighs. They also feature a bamboo charcoal insert that is sewn directly into the diaper, meaning it fits snugly around your child's bottom.
This 5-layer insert is both more absorbent and broader than a standard bamboo charcoal insert. What's more, the all-in-one Pocket diaper has a pocket that allows you to add an extra insert if you want to boost absorbency further.
Finally, the all-in-one Pocket diaper has a microfleece lining that provides a stay-dry feel for baby's bottom.
