I find my baby ugly — what should I do?

In such cases, it is also difficult for these same women to fully enjoy those first precious moments with their little one! This phenomenon should absolutely not be dismissed, as it affects the moment of first meeting as well as the days that follow.

Because, indeed, finding your baby unattractive can in some way "block" you from giving them the affection they need.

Why does this happen?

Several factors can explain the feeling of finding your child unattractive at birth.

First of all, the gap between imagination and reality. Baby spends 9 months in the womb — 9 months during which we imagine them in every possible way. We may even make predictions: "will they have mummy's eyes or granny's?", "daddy's nose or their sister's?".

And then there are the magazines, the television, the programmes, where you see gorgeous babies from the very moment of birth, all ready for a photo shoot. These images can distort our perception of things. The disappointment can be considerable.
