DIY - A light and airy mobile for baby
Baby is due soon and you are in the thick of decorating and setting up the nursery. The decor is almost finished, but you are still missing that light, airy, colourful mobile that your little one will love gazing at during nappy changes, for example. The good news is that it is really very easy to make — you just need a couple of hours to spare. And best of all, the materials needed are incredibly cheap. Our version cost us around 6 euros! Maximum impact, minimal cost — here is how to make a wonderfully light pompom mobile for your baby's room!
How to make a felt pompom mobile for baby?
Materials needed
1 hanging frame (we found ours at Søstrene Grene — you can replace it with branches for an even more budget-friendly version)
1 pack of felt pompoms
Fishing line (or thin string, depending on the look you want)
1 pair of scissors
1 needle
Steps to make a felt pompom mobile
It is quite simple — first, you need to tie the hanging frame and make a large loop so that it can be suspended.
Next, you need to make the garlands that will be attached to the frame. To do this, simply tie a knot in the fishing line (this is not necessary with string) and thread the needle through the pompom. Repeat until you have the right length, then attach it to the hanging frame.
Then repeat the process for the other sides. And that is pretty much it!
Top tips for making your airy baby mobile a success
There are, however, two small challenges when creating a pompom mobile.
The first is that the different pompom garlands must all weigh the same, otherwise the mobile will be unbalanced. To ensure equal weight, choose your pompoms based on those you used for the first garland. If you have several rows of garlands on the same branch, you can vary the arrangements from row to row. But the first row must be identical across all branches, and the same goes for row two.
The second challenge — and this is probably the trickiest — is making sure the garlands do not tangle together. The simplest solution is to hang the mobile up while you are making it. You can, for example, hang it from your clothes airer with a clothes peg. That is how we did it, and it works a treat!
