Chocolate spread for babies

Your baby is finally old enough to enjoy a wider variety of foods and even discover little treats like chocolate — so why not try a baby-friendly chocolate spread? One that will go down a treat with older children too…

A homemade chocolate spread

Shop-bought spreads are often far too sweet and full of preservatives, and the organic options can be quite pricey. So why not go homemade? Quick, simple to make, and very budget-friendly, this homemade baby chocolate spread is well worth trying! You can offer it to your child from 18 months onwards.

Ingredients:

5 squares of dark chocolate (organic if possible)

1 plain fromage frais (unsweetened)

2 tablespoons of milk

Recipe:

Melt the chocolate with the milk in a bain-marie.

Once melted, remove the saucepan from the bain-marie and stir in the fromage frais.

Mix everything together and enjoy!

Variations: To keep things interesting and make it even more indulgent, you can also add a little hazelnut butter to this delicious mixture. Get your spoons at the ready!

Please note that this spread will not keep as long as a jar from the supermarket. It is best to make just the right quantity for the day.

Snack ideas

This recipe is a perfect accompaniment for your child's afternoon snack, and goes beautifully with:

Brioche (homemade is even better)

The classic crêpes — for little ones, eating them with their fingers makes it even more fun!

Muffins with a chocolate spread centre!

Baby rusks, perfect for a satisfying crunch!

Cute little shortbread biscuits in fun shapes filled with palm-oil-free chocolate spread

You will find plenty of DIY recipe ideas designed specifically for babies from 6 to 24 months online — on blogs or in specialist cookery books.
