Winter has well and truly arrived, and your little one… is not so little any more! It is the perfect time to introduce them to the joys of the snow — and to winter fruit compotes! Clementines, apples, dates, bananas, lemon… the choice is endless. So here is a little baby recipe using winter fruits, to pack in those vitamins!

Apple and kiwi compote recipe — for an energising winter!

This recipe is suitable for babies from 12 months. Ingredients

  • 1 ripe kiwi
  • 2 Chanteclerc or Belchard apples (which soften nicely when cooked)
  • A little mineral water
  • A plain biscuit, such as a petit beurre

Method

  • Peel the apples and the kiwi, then set the kiwi aside;
  • Cut the apples and rinse them under cold water, then steam for approximately 12 minutes;
  • Once the apples are cooked, place them in a blender and add the kiwi;
  • Add a little water or the cooking liquid until you reach the desired consistency for the winter compote.

Serving suggestion

You can crumble a little biscuit into the bottom of a ramekin, then spoon the compote on top. Leave to rest at room temperature for a few hours, then offer this delicious winter fruit recipe to your child. Bon appétit!

Spotlight on kiwi — the little fruit with a big punch

The kiwi may be small, but it packs a real punch! As well as being delicious, it is full of goodness:

  • It is extremely rich in vitamin C — even more so than oranges;
  • This fruit is the ideal ally for babies suffering from constipation;
  • Kiwi helps to boost the immune system;
  • It is an excellent source of minerals and vitamins;
  • It has been found to benefit kidney health.

And if your little one is not keen on kiwi, a study has demonstrated its benefits as a natural healing agent! So in the event of a little scrape, always keep a kiwi to hand!

A word of caution

As kiwi is an acidic fruit, we recommend introducing it around the age of 8–12 months. If you notice any allergic reaction, speak to your paediatrician.
