Today, we're talking about housework, laundry, and all those little chores we love — OR NOT — in our daily lives. More specifically, we're looking at the benefits of washing soda crystals. But before we get into their properties, let's get acquainted!

A newcomer in the eco-friendly cleaning aisle?

New? Not quite, truth be told. And not to be confused with bicarbonate of soda, or indeed caustic soda… which are completely different things!

Washing soda crystals come from sodium carbonate. It is a chemical substance obtained from natural deposits, but which is nowadays manufactured from chalk and salt.

These little crystals have the ability to soften water, but don't be caught off guard, as they are quite corrosive. You will therefore need to handle them with care… and gloves!

The benefits of washing soda crystals

Well, you've probably guessed that if we're telling you about them, it's because they are an affordable, eco-friendly, and highly effective household cleaner!

They can be useful on all surfaces that need cleaning, and have a number of properties:

Degreasing;
Natural descaler and limescale remover;
Surface disinfectant;
Restoring shine to glassware;
Cutting through grime on surfaces such as the hob and greasy areas;
Helping to unblock drains when mixed with hot water;
Floor cleaning;
And they can even be effective at rescuing a burnt pan, for example.

Washing soda crystals and reusable diapers: a good match or not?

Washing soda crystals should not be used with PUL Pocket diapers, nor with delicate fabrics in general. However, you can use them to clean the inserts. Simply add a small handful of washing soda crystals to the drum of your washing machine at wash time. This method works extremely well for heavily soiled laundry!
