Everything You Need to Know About Reusable Swim Nappies
The holidays are fast approaching, and it is often the perfect time to enjoy a family swim together. Swimming with your baby is possible from as young as 4 months (as long as the water is at 32°C — otherwise you may need to wait a few more months, as babies lose heat very quickly). In fact, it is often something babies thoroughly enjoy; most of them absolutely love splashing about in the water.

However, taking your baby swimming in a regular swimsuit runs the risk of an accident in the water. Traditional nappies, meanwhile, fill with water and become very heavy, which is extremely uncomfortable. To avoid these issues, you can opt for a reusable swim nappy — the perfect alternative that prevents accidents whilst remaining comfortable for your child.
What are swim nappies for?
The purpose of a swim nappy is not to contain wee — at least not whilst your baby is in the water, as urine disperses in the water. It is indeed very difficult to achieve a perfect seal, and water seeps into the absorbent lining of the nappy, whether reusable or disposable. What we do expect from a swim nappy is that it holds in solids!
This is why a swim nappy does not need to be absorbent. On the contrary, an absorbent lining filled with water would restrict your baby's movements and be quite uncomfortable.
Choosing reusable swim nappies also helps reduce waste and save money. Disposable swim nappies cost around £1 each on average, so a reusable swim nappy pays for itself after roughly fifteen swims.
Why choose Maman et Bébé Nature swim nappies?
Practical, economical, and eco-friendly, reusable swim nappy suits can be used over several months, reducing waste. Our designs are adjustable — their press-stud systems allow them to adapt to all body shapes. They can be perfectly tailored to your baby's size, for comfort and to prevent leaks.
They are available in 2 sizes, both adjustable. The 0–2 years suits are suitable for children from 3 to 13 kg. The 2–3 years suits are suitable for children from 8 to 20 kg.

The outer layer is made of PUL, an extremely soft and breathable waterproof fabric. The inside is made of polyester mesh — easy to clean and very gentle on your baby's skin.

How to use a reusable swim nappy?
We recommend adding a microfibre insert (which dries more quickly) into the suit to absorb wee when your baby is at the water's edge. Make sure you adjust the nappy properly around the legs and waist to prevent leaks. You can keep the insert in when your baby is in the water, but as mentioned above, it is not strictly necessary — the insert may swell once submerged, which is not particularly comfortable.
As soon as your child gets out of the water, remove their swim nappy so they can warm up quickly. You can place your baby's wet things in a waterproof bag.
Even if your baby is not swimming, we recommend not exceeding 2 to 3 hours of wear time, in order to avoid the risk of redness.
