How to Choose Your Reusable Nappies?

A question that comes up very often on our social media is: "Which model would you recommend?" The question may seem simple, but the answer is a little more complicated to give. It depends on many factors: your baby's body shape, your washing routine, whether parents are the only ones handling the nappies or whether others — such as a childminder — will also be using them, and so on. Do bear in mind that the ideal nappy may not be the same in every situation.

Which reusable nappy model should you choose?

At Maman et Bébé Nature, we offer 3 types of reusable nappies: Pocket diapers, Cover diapers, and all-in-one diapers. All our models have a PUL outer — a waterproof, breathable fabric. They are adjustable and fasten with press studs. They also allow you to customise absorbency by adding different types of inserts.

Pocket diapers

Advantages of Pocket diapers

- Pocket diapers are easy to use — simply place the insert in the pocket or inside the nappy.

- The microfleece lining provides a stay-dry effect.

- This model is best suited to babies with chubby thighs.

Choosing Pocket diapers

Cover diapers

Advantages of Cover diapers

- Cover diapers are the most flexible option. As they consist solely of waterproof fabric, you can choose whichever type of absorbent you prefer. We suggest using them with press-stud inserts, but they can also be used as a wrap cover with flat nappies, pre-folded flats, pre-folded nappies, traditional washable nappies, and more.

- They can be reused for two consecutive nappy changes — you can choose to change only the insert, which helps reduce the number of washes.

- This model is particularly well suited to breastfed babies thanks to its double leak-guard gussets.

- Very quick drying time.

Choosing Cover diapers

All-in-one diapers

Advantages of all-in-one diapers

- All-in-one diapers are the easiest to use — they can be put on without any assembly whatsoever.

- They feature a sewn-in 5-layer super-absorbent charcoal insert and double leak-guard gussets.

- The microfleece lining provides a stay-dry effect.

- This is an ideal model for night-time use.

Disadvantages of all-in-one diapers

- They take a long time to dry.

- They require slightly more careful maintenance, particularly when heavily soiled.

Choosing all-in-one diapers

Do not hesitate to mix and match models according to your needs. For example, you might perfectly well choose Cover diapers for day-to-day use and all-in-one diapers for nights and when your childminder is in charge.

What size should I choose for my reusable nappies?

Our reusable nappies are adjustable and suitable for children weighing approximately 4 to 15 kg. We also have a Newborn range for babies weighing 2 to 5.5 kg. If you are expecting twins, if your older children were born prematurely, or if your baby is estimated to weigh less than 3 kg at birth, we recommend the Newborn nappies. Otherwise, you can order the standard size straight away.

Which insert should I choose for my reusable nappies?

The insert is the absorbent part of the reusable nappy. Depending on the material, inserts vary in absorbency and have different properties. Inserts can be doubled up to combine the benefits of one material with those of another.
