Squash for baby: recipes and health benefits
Among the autumn vegetables you absolutely must let your little one try: squash! Its sweet, fragrant flavour is generally very popular with babies. Here, without further ado, are 2 recipes using squash for baby, along with its health benefits!
Squash and sweet potato purée, from 6 months
Ingredients:
- A few pieces of squash (butternut for example), approximately 500g
- One small sweet potato (approximately 200g)
- 3 teaspoons of olive oil
- A small spoonful of crème fraîche
Method:
- Steam the squash and sweet potato for 20 minutes. (Check they are cooked through and leave for a few more minutes if needed);
- Place the vegetables in a blender, add the olive oil and crème fraîche.
- Add a little cooking water depending on the desired consistency.
Squash and comté risotto (from 8 months)
Ingredients:
- Half a squash (potimarron)
- 1 onion
- Risotto rice
- 60g of comté
- Olive oil
Method:
- Peel and chop the squash, then steam for 15 minutes
- Finely slice the onion and fry gently in olive oil for a few minutes
- Add the rice and stir it together with the onion for 3 to 4 minutes
- Pour 2 glasses of boiling water over the rice gradually, stirring continuously, until all the water is absorbed
- Once the squash is cooked, add the comté cut into small pieces, then blend
- Use the squash cooking water to finish cooking the risotto
- Mix the rice into the squash purée
You can add a few herbes de Provence if baby likes them!
