Why avoid shop-bought ice lollies for baby?
Shop-bought ice lollies carry a risk of allergic reactions. Indeed, industrial ice lollies often contain tree nuts, which are not recommended before the age of 18 months. They are also very high in sugar, which encourages tooth decay and the risk of excess weight in baby.
What can you use instead of sugar?
Agave syrup is an excellent alternative to sugar. It has a low glycaemic index and also provides minerals and vitamins. It is worth knowing, however, that it is twice as sweet as sugar.
When can you give baby an ice lolly?
This ice lolly recipe can be given after baby's meal once weaning has begun, or as an afternoon snack. With ingredients that are both healthy and essential for baby's daily nutritional needs, it truly combines the useful with the pleasurable.
